Perfil Professional
M.A. Serra holds a PhD in Biology (Biochemistry&Molecular Biology, UAB, 1992) and a Master in Science Leadership&Management (UPF-UB-UAB, 2009). He is an official of the European Commission (EC) at the DG Joint Research Centre (JRC-Ispra), Leader of the Project NANOPLASTICS at the Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS). He had worked as a scientific researcher in environmental toxicology at the JRC-Ispra (1988-2002), has been the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Associate Professor of Cellular and Molecular Biology of the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC), Barcelona (2002-2005), and between 2005-2020, he was a senior scientist at the Laboratory of Neuropharmacology of the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences of the UPF, Barcelona (Spain). His main current interests are in the ethics of emerging technologies (NBIC) in human health and in their impact in human beings, human enhancement and transhumanism, with 3 books, plus several book chapters and articles.
